“Don't worry, Mommy!”

September 22, 2010, Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday evening,

my beloved wife had dinner with their three children and told them

that their Arizona grandfather (maternal grandfather) had cancer.

The reaction of the children was astonishing:

Really?’, “Cancer?”, ‘O no’, ‘O my gosh’, etc.

Then our eldest daughter Yeri said: ‘I guess God wants him in heaven faster.’

Then Yeri comforted her mother and said: ‘Don’t worry, Mommy!  You are going to die too.’

Then Yeri hugged her mother. Haha.

My wife laughed and shared this conversation over the phone with me at her parents’ house in Arizona.

The reason my wife laughed was probably because

the children were surprised to hear that their grandfather had cancer.

Further, the reason why my wife laughed is because

Yeri said to her, “Don't worry, Mommy!  You are going to die too.”  Haha.

She is a bit interesting kid.  Haha.

When I heard this story, I thought:

‘'I think even children know what cancer is.

Since I took them to a nursing home for two years or so, I think they know a little about death

(Note: We used to visi two grandmothers in our church at the nursing home,

and the children also know that both of them passed away).

For some reason, Yeri doesn't seem too worried about death, ever her mother's death... . etc.'

We should never take death lightly, but neither should we take it too seriously.

I'm thinking that it might not be desirable for some reason.
