We must be offended by the word of God.

We, who honor God with our lips but our hearts are far away from Him (Mt. 15:8),

are worshiping God vainly because our teachings are but rules taught by men (v. 9).  

We are breaking the command of God for the sake of our tradition (v. 3).

We say that “Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is a gift devoted to God,

he is not to ‘honor his father’ with it” (vv. 5-6). 

“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander” (v. 19).

We who are like these Pharisees must be offended by the word of God (v. 12).
