The Lord who gives us grace so that we can be gracious to others.
Now the Lord is commanding me to love my neighbor as myself (Mt. 22:39),
But that neighbor is the one that I don’t like.
So I am now disobeying the Lord’s command (Jon. 1:2).
But the Lord is enabling such disobedient sinner like me to receive grace from non-believers around me
And is teaching me that my God is gracious (vv. 4-13).
I think the purpose is that the Lord wants me to imitate Him
and be gracious to my neighbor whom I don’t like.
But I am still refusing to be gracious to him.
Rather, I am still watching and waiting to see that it doesn’t go well with him (4:5).
