What the nature desires vs. what the Spirit desires?
"Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires;
but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires"
(Rom 8:5).
- Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires.
What does that nature desire?
“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions,
factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these …” (Gal. 5:19-21);
“For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts,
false witness, slanders”
(Mt. 15:19).
- Those who live accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
What does that nature desire?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control …”
(Gal. 5:22-23).
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence
and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things”
(Phil. 4:8).
