For our transgressions and our iniquities...

When we hear from news that the court ruling is death penalty,

we think that a person has committed the crime of death penalty.

I am sure no one will think that the person will receive death penalty because of their own sins.

The Jews did at the time of Jesus.  They thought that Jesus deserved to die on the cross.

They thought that Jesus should be cursed by God and be crucified

because of his sin of blaspheming God and the temple.

But Jesus, without sin, died on the cross for our transgressions and our iniquities. (Isa. 53:5)
