Why Jonah disobeyed?

Why did the prophet Jonah disobey God’s command and

ran away to Joppa instead of going to Nineveh? (Jon. 1:1-2)

Why did Jonah tell the Gentile sailors to throw him into the sea? (v. 12)

I think Jonah wanted Nineveh to be destroyed so much that if he was thrown into the sea and die,

Then the people of Nineveh wouldn’t be warned and they wouldn’t give opportunity to repent.

I think Jonah believed that Assyria, the enemy of Israel, should be destroyed in order for his people,

the Israelites, might live.  But I think God’s heart was for the people of Nineveh to repent

so that His people, the Israelites, also repent.

Salvation Through JUDGMENT AND MERCY")
