“I never expected …”
Father Jacob thought that his most beloved son Joseph was death for 22 years
(Joseph was hated by his older brothers when he was 17 years old and was sold to some Midianite traders
and then to Potiphar, an Egyptian officer of Pharaoh,
and then he was put to in charge of the whole land of Egypt,
and then met his father Jacob when he was 39 years old, the second year of the famine).
But Jacob heard that Joseph was alive and he was put to in charge of the whole land of Egypt from his other sons.
And this is what he said: “… It is enough;
my son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die” (Gen. 45:28).
And after Jacob met Joseph face to face in Egypt, this is what he said to him:
“… Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive" (46:30).
And before he blessed Joseph’s two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, this is what he said to Joseph:
“… I never expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your children as well” (48:11).
This reminds me Ephesians 3:20 –
“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works within us.”
