Those who hated are now afraid of being hated

Joseph’s ten older brothers, who hated Joseph when he was 17 years old (Gen. 37:2-4).

Were afraid that Joseph might bear a grudge against them and might pay them back in full,

Thinking that Joseph might hate them after their father Jacob died

When Joseph was 56 years old (50:15, 19).

 And when he was 39 years old (7 years of harvest + 2 years of famine),

he revealed himself to his brothers. 

Then he brought his father Jacob and all his families from the land of Canaan to Egypt. 

Jacob lived 17 more years in Egypt and died at the age of 147 (47:27).  

Therefore, Joseph’s age was 56 years old (39 years old + 17 years) when his father Jacob died.]
