When we do not arise, God's storm will arise.
When God commanded Jonah to "Arise" and go to Nineveh (Jonah 1:2),
he ran away from the Lord and "went down" to Tarshish (v.3).
And he "went down" to Joppa, "went aboard" (v.3) and "went down" to deck (v.5).
Then God sent a great on the sea, and such a violent storm "arose" that the ship threatened to break up (v.4).
So all the sailors, each of them, cried out to their own god (v.5a).
But Jonah fell into a deep sleep (v.5).
When we do not "arise" after receiving the Lord's command,
we will keep on going down and down.
When we do not "arise",
God's storm will "arise".
When we disobey the Lord's command,
even other non-believers around us will suffer.
When they cry out to their own gods,
we will fall into a deep sleep.
