The Lord’s Troops
“Your troops will be willing on your day of battle. Arrayed in holy majesty from the womb of the dawn you will receive the dew of your youth” (Ps. 110:3).
Who are the Lord’s troops?
First, the Lord’s troops are the ones who volunteer freely to the Lord. We are the soldiers of Jesus Christ. And we are fighting the spiritual battle. In order to fight the good fight, we must become “a good soldier”(2 Tim.3-4). The good soldiers endure hardship with the Lord. And they don’t get involve in civilian affairs – “he wants to please his commanding officer.” You see, the good soldiers of Jesus Christ endure hardship. And they are willing to suffer for the sake of Jesus Christ because they know that suffering for the Lord is God’s grace (Phil.1:29). In face, it is their desire and prayer that they get to know the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings (3:10).
Second, the Lord’s troops are the ones who shine the holy light of Jesus Christ in this dark world. Like the dew, the Lord’s troops have pure heart. We are the holy soldiers of Jesus Christ who are fighting the holy war of God. We must shine God’s holiness in this dark world. We must have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness (Eph.5:11). Rather we must expose them and rebuke them (vv.11, 13).
Third, the Lord’s troops are victorious as they receive strength -en from the Lord. We must remember that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph.6:12). We must put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes (v.11). We must sharpen the sword of the Spirit – the Word of God (v.17).
