Put your hope in God!

“Why are you downcast O my soul?  Why so disturbed within me?  Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (Psalms 43:5).

Why was the psalmist’s soul downcast and disturbed within him?  The reason is because he felt that God rejected him (v.2).  Although God never rejected him, he felt that way because of oppression by his enemy (v.2) - deceitful and wicked men (v.1).  So the psalmist went about mourning (v.2).  And that brought downcast and disturbance in his soul.

We go through similar spiritual experience in our spiritual journey.  We sometimes feel that God is rejecting us especially when are going through difficulties in our lives.  So we cry out to God.  But when God’s answer seems to be delayed, we are prone to quickly judge in our heart that God is rejecting me.  That feeling of rejection even from God has devastating impact in our heart such as, discouragement and disturbance in our soul.  What must we do in those times?  As the psalmist says, we must put out hope in God.  He is our stronghold (v.2).  He is our Savior and God (v.5).  He is our joy and our delight (v.4).  He can send forth His light and His truth and let them guide us to His holy mountain, “to the place where you (He) dwell” (v.3).  Then we will go to the altar of God and will be able to praise him (vv.4, 5).  May that blessing be upon you all!
