Proclaim God’s Promise
“Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day …” (Joshua 14:12a)
God gave a promise to Caleb through Moses and after 45 years later Caleb proclaimed His promise to Joshua, the successor of Moses – “Now give me this hill country (Hebron).” Caleb waited 45 years patiently without forgetting the promise that God had given him and finally he received his inheritance Hebron during the time of Joshua.
When I think about Caleb, I believe he was a man of conviction (v.7). When he was forty years old, he was sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan (v.7). Although other ten spies brought bad report and thus made the hearts of the Israelites melt with fear (v.8), Caleb brought back “a report according to my(his) convictions” (v.7). How could he bring the good report back to Moses and the Israelites? It was because he followed the Lord his God wholeheartedly (vv.8, 9, 14).
Do we follow the Lord our God wholeheartedly? Are we men or women with conviction? If so, we can proclaim God’s promise boldly before God in our prayer. Therefore, let us pray to God by proclaiming the Lord’s promise to our church - “… I will build my church”(Mt.16:18).
