Do Right!

“He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.” (2 Kings 18:3).

What did King Hezekiah do that was right in the eyes of the Lord?  First, he removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles (v.4a).  He also “broke  into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made because the Israelites had been burning incense to it up to that time (v.4b).  Second thing that King Hezekiah did was to trust in the Lord (v.5).  The Scripture says that there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him (v.5).  In fact, he held fast to the Lord (v.6).  This means King Hezekiah did not cease to follow God (v.6).  He kept the commands the Lord had given Moses (v.6).  As a result, “the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook” (v.7).

In order for us to do right in the eyes of the Lord, there are three things that we must have: (1) Right thought, (2) Right choice and (3) Right action.  It has to start with our mind.  Without having right thoughts we cannot make the right choices and thus unable to act rightly.  Having right mind, that is Biblical mind or Christian mind, we are able to make the choices that the Lord wants us to make.  And having made the right choices, we can walk the right path.  Let us do right!
