The Wise Who Hear the Voice of Wisdom
We must listen to the call of wisdom (Proverbs 8:1).
The reason is that wisdom speaks to us about "the best things" (Proverbs 8:6, first part). In other words, wisdom teaches us "the right values," and for this reason, we must listen to the voice of wisdom. When we hold the right values, we can discern what is eternal and beneficial and what is temporary and useless. The wise person who listens to the voice of wisdom has the right values and chooses what is eternal and beneficial.
The reason we must listen to the voice of wisdom is that it speaks to us about "honesty" (Proverbs 8:6, second part). In other words, wisdom shows us "the right path," and for this reason, we must listen to it. As we walk on the right path, the voice of the adversary tells us to walk down a crooked path, but wisdom tells us to walk the straight path, the path of righteousness. The wise person who listens to the voice of wisdom stays faithful to the right path, without deviating to the left or the right, choosing the correct way and walking with integrity.
The reason we must listen to the voice of wisdom is that it speaks to us about "truth" (Proverbs 8:7). In other words, wisdom gives us "right discernment," and for this reason, we must listen to it. When we have proper discernment, we can distinguish between what is true and what is false. The wise person who listens to the voice of wisdom has the right discernment, chooses the truth, and lives a genuine life.
The reason we must listen to the voice of wisdom is that it speaks to us about "justice" (Proverbs 8:8). In other words, wisdom teaches us "right actions," and for this reason, we must listen to it. As we act in righteousness, the voice of the adversary tells us to act unjustly in this unfair world, but wisdom tells us to practice justice. The wise person who listens to the voice of wisdom acts justly, even in this unjust world.
