Malachi 2:15

The Purpose of Marriage 2

The second purpose of marriage is to have godly children. Malachi 2:15 tells us that God desires to have godly offspring. We are meant to have children. Couples who deliberately decide not to have children are committing a sin. Having children and raising them in the fear of the Lord is a difficult task that comes with great responsibility. If the process of realizing how difficult it is to love each other according to the Bible is what we call "married life," then realizing how difficult and challenging it is to raise children according to God's will is also part of married life. Through this process, husbands and wives come to realize how great and weighty their responsibilities are, both as spouses and as parents, and they can do nothing but cling to God and pray. We are living in a time when the second purpose of marriage, "to have godly children," is being challenged under the guise of economic reasons or self-fulfillment. Christian young people must pray and strive to live in obedience to God's will in this age, as they enter into marriage and live their married life.
