The Purpose of Marriage 1

Christian young people need to understand the clear reasons and purpose for why they should get married. Genesis 2:18-24 and 1 Corinthians 11:9 reveal that the purpose of God creating woman was to be a helper suitable for man. As a result, men and women are inevitably oriented differently. Men need help, while women are designed to provide that help.

Marriage is not simply about a man and a woman coming together to love each other and live happily. The reason God brings us together as husband and wife is so that the two can become one flesh, with a divine calling to work together to fulfill God's will. In marriage, both partners are to help each other, but the husband must recognize that he needs his wife’s help, and the wife must clearly understand that she is meant to help her husband.
