“The Word Became Flesh” (3)

[John 1:1-4, 9-14]

The Bible states that the Son Jesus Christ, who is the “Word,” is also God. John 1:1 says:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
The Bible says that Jesus Christ, who is the “Word,” “is God.” Isaiah 9:6 says:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
This passage is the prophecy by the prophet Isaiah about the birth (incarnation) of the Son Jesus, referring to the coming Jesus as “Mighty God.”
1 John 5:20 says:
“And we know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”
The Bible says that the Son Jesus Christ is the true God and eternal life (verse 20, Contemporary Bible).

The Bible also says that the Son Jesus Christ, who is the “Word,” has the same nature (attributes) that only God has:

(1) Jesus Christ is unchanging:
Although all things change, God who created all things does not change. Hebrews 1:11-12 says:
“They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”
The Bible says “you remain the same” [“you are unchanging and consistent” (Contemporary Bible)].
Hebrews 13:8 says:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
The Bible says “Jesus Christ is forever the same” (verse 8, Contemporary Bible).
James 1:17 says:
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”
The Bible says “God does not change like a shifting shadow” (verse 17, Contemporary Bible).

(2) Jesus Christ is eternal:
Isaiah 9:6 says:
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders; and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God.”
The Bible calls the coming Jesus the “Everlasting Father” (verse 6, Contemporary Bible).

(3) Jesus Christ is everywhere (omnipresence):
Matthew 18:20 says:
“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
God is present wherever two or three are gathered in Jesus’ name.
But Satan cannot be everywhere. Satan cannot be omnipresent because he is a created being of God.
Therefore, Satan cannot be inside us nor around us.
What tempts us nearby are not Satan himself but his minions.

The Bible says that the Son Jesus Christ, who is the “Word,” also does things only God can do:

(1) Jesus Christ Creates:

John 1:3 says,
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
Here, “He” refers to the “Word,” who is God (verse 1), the Son Jesus Christ. The Bible says that all things were created through the Son Jesus Christ, who is the “Word” and God (verse 3, Contemporary Bible).
Hebrews 1:2 says,
“In these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.”
The Bible teaches that the Son Jesus Christ, who is the “Word” and God, created the entire universe together with God the Father.

(2) Jesus Christ Raises the Dead (Gives New Life):

John 11:25 says,
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.’”
The Son Jesus Christ, who is the Word and God, said not only “I am the resurrection,” but also “he who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live,” referring here to resurrection.
1 Thessalonians 4:14,16 says,
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus... For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ will rise first.”
Here, “Jesus died and rose again” (verse 14) refers to Jesus’ resurrection. The verb “rose again” is in the active voice, indicating Jesus rose by His own power.

Jesus has the authority over resurrection. John 10:18 says,
“No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
“Dead in Christ” (1 Thess 4:16) refers to believers who have died in Christ. “Will rise first” means they will come back to life (resurrect). When God and the Son Jesus come (verse 14), that is, when the Lord returns, the believers who died in Christ will resurrect.
The “shout of the Lord” (verse 16) means that when the Lord commands, the dead will come back to life.
Jesus went to Lazarus’ tomb, who had been dead for four days (John 11:39), and called out loudly, “Lazarus, come forth” (He gave the command) (verse 43). As a result, the dead man came out, still wrapped in grave clothes (verse 44).
When the Lord returns and commands the dead believers to “arise,” they will resurrect with glorious bodies. Meanwhile, the living believers will be transformed with glorious bodies. Thus, Jesus, who is the Word and God, also raises the dead believers with glorious bodies (resurrects them).

(3) Jesus Christ Gives Eternal Life:

John 14:6 says,
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’”
The Bible says that the Son Jesus Christ, who is the Word and God, is “life,” that is, eternal life.
The Bible also says that the Son God, who is eternal life, gives eternal life.
John 10:28 says,
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”
The Bible teaches that the Son God, who is the Word, gives eternal life.

The Bible teaches that God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all God, all equal, and that God is one. In other words, the Bible teaches that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three persons (the Trinity) and yet one God.
2 Corinthians 13:13 says:
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
When pastors give the benediction during Sunday worship, they bless the congregation with “the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.” This affirms that the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit are all God, all equal, and that God is one.
Matthew 28:19 says:
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
When pastors baptize, they do so “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” According to some theologians, the reason the Bible commands baptism “in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” rather than “in the names of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,” is because the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are one God.
Philippians 2:6 says:
“Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.”
The Bible says that “he,” meaning Christ Jesus, is “in very nature God” and is “equal with God.” However, He did not consider equality with God something to cling to, but the Son, who is the Word and God, became flesh (verse 7; John 1:14).
John 10:30 says:
“I and the Father are one.”
The Bible says that the Son Jesus is one with God the Father.

The Bible also teaches that the Word, who is the Son Jesus Christ, is God (and that the Holy Spirit is God as well). The Bible calls the Word, the Son Jesus Christ, God, and says He possesses the attributes and nature that belong only to God. It also says the Word, the Son Jesus Christ, does works that only God can do. The Bible teaches that God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all God, equal with one another, and that God is one. In other words, the Bible teaches that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the Trinity and are also one God.
We must be confident in the Triune God whom the Bible reveals and stand firmly in the doctrine of the Trinity. Therefore, when heresies attack us and try to deceive us, we must not waver, but rather help those heretics return to the right path.
