Observe the Word
“No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.” (Deuteronomy 30:14)
God has given the Israelites the word of blessing and of cursing. But the Israelites disobeyed God. As a result, God had to discipline them and sent them away to the captivity (v.1). During the captivity, when they called His word to mind and when they returned to the Lord and obeyed Him with all their heart and soul (v.2), God promised to bless them. God would restore the Israelites from captivity and had compassion on them and would gather them again (v.3). God would bring them back(v.4) and would bring them into the promised land again(v.5). Moreover, God would circumcise their heart and the heart of their descendants to love their God (v.6). And moreover, God would inflict all the curses on their enemies and those who hate them (v.7). God would prosper them abundantly in all the work of their hand, “for the Lord will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers” (v.9). And this commandment which God commands us today is not too difficult for us, nor is it out of reach (v.11). But the Word is very near us, in our mouth, and in our heart so that we may oversee it (v.14).
