“in the later days”
“When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice” (Deut.4:30).
Our God is a great God. He manifests His greatness to us and to the world (3:24). He leads us in this “great wilderness” (2:7) and manifests his great power (3:24) to us and the world. Thus He makes us into the “great nation” (4:6, 8). And He gives us His commandments for us to keep (4:1, 2, 6) so that the people will say “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people” (4:6).
It is our duty to keep His commandments. We must give heed to ourselves and keep our soul diligently (v.9). Not only that we obey His commandments but we must teach out children and grandchildren to obey them (v.10). We must be afraid that we might disobey His commandments and follow other gods (vv.16, 25). Especially when we remain long in this world, we must be careful not to act corruptly and make an idol and worship it (v.25). But what if we disobey God and worship the idol? What if we commit sins against God? There is hope in the Lord. If we seek the Lord with all our heart and all our soul (v.29), God will make us to return to Him in the later days (v.30) because our God is a compassionate God (v.31).
