The Lord’s words, "Stay awake," come to my mind.
As the bridegroom was delayed, both the foolish virgins—
who had lamps but no oil—and the wise virgins—
who had filled their lamps with oil—
became drowsy and fell asleep
(Matthew 25:1-5).
As I meditate on this passage,
the Lord’s command, "Stay awake," comes to my mind:
“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know
on what day your Lord is coming” (Matthew 24:42).
“Watch therefore, for you know
neither the day nor the hour” (Matthew 25:13).
“Be on guard, keep awake.
For you do not know when the time will come” (Mark 13:33).
“Be always on the watch, and pray
that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen,
and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).
