Jesus came for me, who was as insignificant as a dead dog ...
The servant of Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, Hazael,
who saw himself as a mere dog, was informed by the prophet Elisha
that he would succeed Ben-Hadad as king of Aram
(2 Kings 8:13).
When I meditate on this passage, I am reminded of the words of David,
who referred to himself as 'a dead dog, a flea' when speaking to King Saul,
who was pursuing him to kill him (1 Samuel 24:14).
I also recall the words of Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan,
who said to King David, 'What is your servant,
that you should notice a dead dog like me?'
(2 Samuel 9:8)
Jesus endured all suffering and was crucified in my place,
despite my being as insignificant as a dead dog.
As a result, I have become a precious and honored child of God
(Isaiah 43:4; 1 John 3:1).
I have become one of God's chosen royal priests
(1 Peter 2:9).
