“Do not covet your neighbor’s house.”
King Ahab of Israel coveted Naboth's vineyard, which was near his palace
(1 Kings 21:1-2). Similarly, King David, from the roof of his palace,
saw Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah, bathing and coveted her
because she was very beautiful (2 Samuel 11:2-4).
This reminds me of the tenth commandment in Exodus 20:17:
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house.
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male or female servant,
his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
It also brings to mind Colossians 3:5: "... and greed, which is idolatry."
