Does it make sense to do well in religious life

while doing poorly in family life?

Elkanah went up to Shiloh every year

to worship and sacrifice to the Almighty Lord God,

which suggests that he was devout in his religious life.

However, he seemed to have neglected his family life.

Despite having two wives,

he gave a portion of the sacrificial meat to Peninnah and her children,

but he gave a double portion to Hannah, who had no children,

because he loved her especially

(1 Samuel 1:2-5).

How can one claim to live a good religious life

while neglecting their family life?
