Abraham and Isaac,

God the Father and His Only Begotten Son Jesus

When I think about Father Abraham, who loved his son Isaac,

and who took wood for the burnt offering and put it on his son Isaac's shoulders,

while he himself carried the fire and the knife, and together they went up to Mount Moriah to worship,

and when Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood,

then bound his son Isaac and placed him on the altar on top of the wood,

and when he reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son (Genesis 22:5-6, 9-10),

I am reminded of how God the Father, who loves and delights in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ (Mark 1:11, John 3:16), l

aid upon Him the burden of all our sins (Isaiah 53:6, 12)

and went up to Golgotha, also called the Place of the Skull (Matthew 27:33),

to worship together.

But instead of sacrificing His Son Jesus on the accursed tree (Deuteronomy 21:23, Galatians 3:13),

God the Father provided a lamb for the burnt offering (Genesis 22:8),

His own Son Jesus Christ, and after the soldiers had nailed Jesus to the cross,

God the Father pierced His Son Jesus Christ's side with a spear (John 19:34).
