Apostle John's reinterpretation of Jesus' twofold commandment?

Jesus' twofold commandment is:

  • "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind" and
  • "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37, 39).

Apostle John reinterpreted Jesus' twofold commandment in the First Epistle of John as follows:

  • "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world,

love for the Father is not in them" (1 John 2:15-17) and

  • "Love one another. Anyone who does not love remains in death" (1 John 3:11).
