사랑의 수고

(Labor of Love)

(살전 1:3) “너희의 믿음의 역사와 사랑의 수고와 우리 주 예수 그리스도에 대한 소망의 인내를 우리 하나님 아버지 앞에서 끊임없이 기억함이니”

(1 Thess. 1:3) “constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father.”

(1 Tesalonicenses 1:3) “Los recordamos constantemente delante de nuestro Dios y Padre a causa de la obra realizada por su fe, el trabajo motivado por su amor y la constancia sostenida por su esperanza en nuestro Señor Jesucristo.”

오늘 노동 주일을 맞이하여 이렇게 오랜만에 우리 교회 세 사역이 함께 한 자리에 모여 하나님께 마음 것 찬양과 경배를 드리게 된 것, 하나님께 감사드립니다.  특히 오늘 찬양의 찬양과 남성 중창단의 찬양과 성가대의 찬양으로 하나님께 영광을 돌렸을 뿐만 아니라 제 기억으로는 처음으로 우리 히스패닉 사역에서 안드레이아 자매가 세례를 받게 되어 매우 기쁩니다.  그리고 오늘 예배 후 우리 모두가 곧장 Verdugo 공원으로 가서 주님 안에서 식탁 교제를 나누며 친교를 하게 되어 감사하고 기쁩니다.  저는 오늘 노동 주일을 맞이하여 데살로니가전서 1장 3절 말씀 중심으로 “사랑의 수고”(사랑의 노동)(Labor of love)에 대해서 묵상하면서 주시는 교훈을 받고자 합니다.

먼저 우리는 전도서 1장 3절 말씀을 묵상해 봐야 합니다: “해 아래에서 수고하는 모든 수고가 사람에게 무엇이 유익한가”[(현대인의 성경) “사람이 평생 동안 수고하여 얻는 것이 무엇인가?”](What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?)[(Eclesiastés 1:3) “¿Qué provecho saca la gente de tanto afanarse bajo el sol?”]  여러분, 우리 평생에 사람들이 하나님을 떠나서 행하는 모든 수고가 아무 유익도 없고 남는 것도 없습니다(All the hard labor people do apart from God in our lifetime is of no benefit and leaves nothing to be desired).  성경은 하나님을 떠나서 이 세상에서 행하는 모든 수고는 “바람을 잡으려는 수고”(labor for the wind)라고 말씀하고 있습니다(5:16).  여러분, 어떻게 우리가 바람을 잡을 수 있겠습니까?  이것은 우리에게 아무 유익이 없는 헛된 수고(vain labor)입니다. 

그러면 우리가 수고해야 할 서로에게 유익된 의미 있는 수고(Meaningful labor that benefits each other)는 무엇일까요?  바로 “사랑의 수고”(Labor of love)(사랑의 노동)입니다(살전1:3).  데살로니가전서 4장 9절 말씀입니다: “형제 사랑에 관하여는 너희에게 쓸 것이 없음은 너희들 자신이 하나님의 가르치심을 받아 서로 사랑함이라”[(1 Thess.4:9) “Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other”] [(1 Tesalonicenses 4:9) “En cuanto al amor fraternal, no necesitan que escribamos, porque Dios mismo les ha enseñado a amarse unos a otros].  데살로니가 교회 성도들에게 나타난 사랑의 수고는 하나님의 가르치심을 받아 그들을 사랑하였던 바울과 그의 동역자들처럼(3:12) 데살로니가 교회 성도들 또한 서로 사랑한 것입니다(4:9) [The labor of love shown to the Thessalonian church saints was that they also loved one another (4:9), just like Paul and his co-workers who loved them after being taught by God (3:12)].  특별히 데살로니가 교회 성도들은 그들 가운데서 수고하고 주님 안에서 그들을 다스리며 권하는 자들을 사랑 안에서 가장 귀히 여겼습니다(5:12-13) [In particular, the Thessalonian church saints respect and held those who work (labored) hard among them, who were over them in the Lord and who admonished them, in the highest regard in love (5:12-13)].  그리고 그들은 바울의 권면대로 게으른 자들을 권계하며 마음이 약한 자들을 격려하고 힘이 없는 자들을 붙들어 주며 모든 사람들에게 오래 참았습니다(14절) [And they warned those who are idle (lazy), encouraged the faint-hearted (timid), helped the weak, and were patient with everyone (v. 14), as Paul advised].  그리고 그들은 누구에게든지 악으로 악을 갚지 않고 서로 대하든지 모든 사람들을 대하든지 항상 선을 따랐습니다(15절) [And they did not repay evil for evil to anyone, but always followed good toward one another and toward all people (v. 15).]  이러한 데살로니가 교회 성도들의 사랑의 수고를 끊임없이 기억하며 하나님께 감사 기도를 드렸던 바울은 그들의 서로를 향한 사랑과 모든 사람에 대한 사랑이 더욱더 넘치길 하나님께 간구했습니다(3:12) [Paul, constantly remembering the labors of love of the Thessalonian church saints and giving thanks to God, prayed to God that their love for each other and for all people would overflow (3:12)].
